Hearing Relief

Our baby boy failed his hearing test on the afternoon of his birth just before we left the hospital. He had his repeat test (picture above) yesterday and thankfully it was normal.

• Praise God that baby’s hearing is o.k.

My haircutting needs a bit of work. The last time I cut Luca’s hair it wasn’t so bad but this time it was a bit woeful. My parents insist that I get it cut at the hair dressers next time.

Luca Loves Kimchi

Kimchi is THE iconic and stable food of Korea. And Luca loves Kimchi! His grandmother washes it with water so that it is not so hot as Kimchi (as it is naturally spicy hot). His grandparents especially ordered some Kimchi for him today and now we have a whole container full of Kimchi smelling out our kitchen!

Cultural Difference - New Mums

Brotherly Love

We are experienceing the cultural differences for new mums. In Korean culture (and probably many other Asian cultures) the new mum is expected to stay in bed for at least 21 days! They aren't even allowed to have a shower as this would affect the body's "balance". No washing hands with cold water. That's why the new mum's mum has to come and do everything.

So when L was preparing some beads for the beading day tomorrow, my mum was very surprised.

It's been great L being home and not in hospital where it would have been very difficult for her to sleep. The new bub is sleeping much better today. First bath. First time L has been wee-ed on while changing the baby's nappy. Hoping for a better night's sleep tonight. Baby's staying in his room tonight and not with us.

Praise God that he has made many different cultures! How boring if we were all mono-cultural!

Baby Boy

L started having contractions at 2am but didn't wake me as she thought that there was plenty of time before we had to go into hospital. I woke up at around 7am and found L in front of computer having contractions. When I timed the contractions they were 2 minutes apart! I thought about having a shower but decided against it as L's contractions were getting worse. Luckily L's parents were only 5 minutes away thought they didn't pick up the phone the first two tries. We reached the hospital at 7:30am and by then L's contractions were quite strong. I dropped L off at the birth centre and rushed to park the car and ran back. L was 7 cm dilated. 15 minutes later the baby was born! Too quickly for our Clem our midwife friend to make it on time. Since L did so well with the labour we left for home at around 3pm. Our son didn't pass the hearing test, but the tester told us not to worry as it is likely to be mucous in the ear which should clear up in the next couples of days. We are enjoying our new son though I didn't get much sleep last night as mucous seemed to be in our newborn's sinuses affecting his breathing.

• Praise God for a relatively quick labour
• Please pray for his health (especially that his hearing is ok)and that he will grow up to know Jesus.

Cirque de Soliel - Varekai

L and I went to see this great show today. I'm not a great fan of circuses but L loves it so it was a special date night for us. L's brother and sister-in-law were great in giving us a gift to go towards a date such as this. I must admit that I quite enjoyed the show, especially the acrobatics. L sighed wishing she could be as fit and athletic as the cast.

Prayer:

• Praise God that L could walk well enough to enjoy the show and didn't need to use the wheel chair we borrowed just in case.
• Praise God for family to look after our son while we were at the show.
• Praise God that he made the human body with so much potential to do amazing things.
